Technip Energies has secured a large Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contract from Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) for the Lube Modernization and Bottom Upgradation (LMBU) project at its Mumbai Refinery in Maharashtra.
The contract covers the delivery of a 550 KTA Integrated Hydrocracker and Catalytic Dewaxing (IHCD) unit and an 850 KTA Solvent Deasphalting (SDA) unit, which will be integrated into HPCL’s operating Mumbai Refinery.
The project is aimed at modernizing HPCL’s production of lube oil base stocks, used in automotive engine oils and industrial lubricants. It will also enable heavier refinery streams to be converted into higher-value products, improving resource utilization and the refinery’s long-term competitiveness.
According to Technip Energies, a contract classified as “large” represents €250 million to €500 million in revenue. The order will be recorded in the company’s Project Delivery segment backlog in Q3 2026.
Commenting on the award, Loïc Chapuis, President Project Delivery and Services, Technip Energies, said the contract builds on a relationship with HPCL spanning more than two decades and will draw on the company’s expertise in refinery modernization and complex project execution.
