Montra Electric, VFRYT join hands to advance electric logistics in Chennai

Montra Electric, VFRYT join hands to advance electric logistics in Chennai

Montra Electric has partnered with Chennai-based technology platform VFRYT to strengthen the adoption of electric commercial vehicles in urban logistics. The collaboration coincides with the launch of VFRYT’s digital logistics marketplace and the induction of a new fleet of electric cargo vehicles in Chennai, marking a step towards integrating technology-driven transportation with sustainable mobility.

The partnership brings together two Chennai-based companies seeking to transform the commercial transportation ecosystem. While VFRYT aims to simplify access to cargo transportation through its on-demand digital platform, Montra Electric will support the initiative with purpose-built electric vehicles catering to last-mile and intra-city logistics requirements.

VFRYT’s platform offers customers the flexibility to book different categories of commercial vehicles, ranging from small last-mile carriers to larger trucks, through a single interface. The platform also integrates GPS, SIM-based and FASTag tracking, AI-enabled monitoring and real-time alerts, providing businesses with greater visibility into vehicle movement and shipment status. By consolidating vehicle booking, pricing and tracking, the platform seeks to improve operational transparency and efficiency in goods transportation.

Commenting on the collaboration, Jalaj Gupta, Managing Director, Montra Electric, said, “For electric commercial mobility to scale, the business case must be as compelling as the technology itself. The real opportunity lies in integrating electric vehicles into the everyday flow of commerce and ensuring they create tangible value for the businesses that depend on them. By connecting our vehicles with an on-demand platform like VFRYT, we are expanding opportunities for their deployment while bringing electric mobility closer to the daily realities of Indian logistics.”

Speaking on the occasion, Pradeep Murali, Founder & CEO, VFRYT, said, “Our vision at VFRYT is to make commercial transportation more accessible, transparent and efficient through technology. This collaboration with Montra Electric is an important step towards bringing sustainable mobility into the everyday logistics ecosystem. We aim to give businesses greater access to efficient transportation solutions through our on-demand platform, while accelerating the adoption of electric mobility and supporting cleaner urban logistics. We believe that the convergence of technology and electric mobility will play a key role in shaping the future of goods transportation in India.”

A key component of the partnership is the Montra Electric Super Cargo eCX d+, which has been designed for urban freight and last-mile transportation. The vehicle is equipped with a 13.8 kWh battery, offering a claimed range of over 150 km on a single charge, along with a cargo capacity of 170 cubic feet. Its heavy-duty chassis is designed to support demanding commercial applications, while features such as a spacious cabin and LED lighting aim to enhance driver comfort and visibility. The vehicle also incorporates the One Montra App for a connected ownership experience and comes with a five-year battery warranty.

VFRYT’s initial fleet will comprise approximately 185 electric vehicles, including 50 newly inducted Montra Electric vehicles. The fleet will be deployed through VFRYT’s network of channel mobility partners, bringing together fleet operators and owner-cum-driver partners on the platform. The business model is intended to widen vehicle availability while creating participation opportunities for individual vehicle owners and mobility partners.

Alongside electric vehicles, VFRYT will also provide diesel and CNG-powered transportation options to cater to varying customer and operational requirements. The company plans to expand its services across Chennai through a phased deployment strategy, with an eventual expansion into other Indian markets.

The launch event witnessed participation from representatives across the startup, mobility and electric vehicle industries, including Singai G. Ramachandran, Chairman, Tamil Nadu Startup and Innovation Mission, and Vivek Jain, Co-Founder and CEO, NexxGro, along with industry partners, customers and media representatives.

The collaboration highlights the growing role of digital platforms in reshaping commercial transportation, while creating new avenues for electric vehicle deployment. By combining technology-enabled logistics with electric cargo mobility, Montra Electric and VFRYT aim to contribute to a more efficient and sustainable urban goods transportation ecosystem.
