Daimler India Commercial Vehicles (DICV), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Daimler Truck AG, has unveiled its latest innovation in the heavy-duty truck segment – the BharatBenz Torqshift range. The introduction of these trucks, equipped with the globally recognized 12-speed Automated Manual Transmission (AMT), sets new benchmarks for power, performance, and productivity in the Indian construction and mining industries. The first major order for the new trucks includes 80 units of the 3532CM mining tippers, marking a significant milestone for BharatBenz.
The BharatBenz Torqshift range brings superior driving comfort, efficiency, and cutting-edge technology to the market. Built on decades of engineering expertise from Mercedes-Benz, the 12-speed AMT offers smooth, jerk-free gear shifting and significantly faster shift times, enhancing the drivability of the trucks. The system integrates seamlessly with the BharatBenz models, including the 4032T, 5532TS, 5532T, 2832CM, and the flagship 3532CM, which is now equipped with the advanced AMT for the first time.
Sreeram Venkateswaran, President and Chief Business Officer, DICV, stated, “With the new 12-speed AMT in our CM portfolio, customers will see significant productivity improvement and notable savings, as overall fleet efficiency increases. The deliveries for the 3532CM BharatBenz Torqshift trucks have started, and vehicles are already being deployed in operations.”
Designed specifically to meet the demanding requirements of the Indian construction, mining, and long-haul segments, the Torqshift range features a broader selection of gear ratios and higher input torque capacity, making these trucks ideal for handling gross combination weights (GCW) ranging from 28 to 55 ton. The transmission’s robust performance is enhanced by an innovative design that eliminates the need for synchromesh parts, significantly improving reliability and reducing the frequency of overhauls.
The Torqshift transmission’s compact, lightweight alloy housing ensures an optimal power-to-weight ratio, offering extended service intervals and reduced operating costs. This technology is optimized for specific operational conditions, providing fuel efficiency while lowering the total cost of ownership. Safety is another key aspect of the Torqshift range, with powertrain protection systems controlled by software that minimize the risk of driveline component damage in tough operating environments.
Pradeep Kumar Thimmaiyan, President and Chief Technology Officer, DICV, emphasized, “A global technology like the Mercedes-Benz AMT, seamlessly integrated in our BharatBenz Torqshift range of trucks, reduces driving stress and ensures faster turnaround with higher fuel efficiency. Torqshift is engineered to minimize maintenance, significantly improving the total cost of ownership for our customers.”
The BharatBenz Torqshift trucks are built to enhance operator comfort with ergonomic features such as the shift lever integrated into the steering column, providing smoother gear transitions and reducing noise and heat inside the cabin. The seamless gear shifting mechanism ensures a safer, more comfortable driving experience across different driving modes – auto, manual, power, and eco.
With its focus on reliability, fuel efficiency, and safety, the BharatBenz Torqshift range is set to revolutionize the Indian heavy-duty truck market, offering exceptional value to businesses in mining, construction, and long-haul logistics.
