Railways expands private-sector-linked freight infrastructure across Gujarat

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnawis scheduled to dedicate four Gati Shakti Cargo Terminals (GCTs) in Gujarat soon, at Bhimasar, Devaliya, Chandisar and Shivlakha, while laying the foundation stone for a fifth terminal at Linch in Mehsana.

The terminals are intended to strengthen rail-based goods movement and integrate private logistics infrastructure more closely with the national rail network. The programme also includes passenger infrastructure improvements in the state.

The four terminals are being commissioned today; the Linch terminal is at the foundation stage.

Gujarat’s industrial and port ecosystem makes it particularly important for India’s shift from road-heavy freight toward multimodal logistics. Cargo terminals close to production centres can reduce first/last-mile handling and improve rail utilisation.

This creates a continuing market for rail sidings, warehouses, material-handling equipment, cranes, loading systems, wagons and logistics-park construction. It also complements the recently completed western Dedicated Freight Corridor.
