Danfoss India unveils iC7 Drive to advance industrial energy efficiency

Danfoss India has introduced its next-generation iC7 Ultra Low Harmonics Drive, aimed at helping Indian industries improve power quality, reduce energy waste and lower their carbon footprint as the country expands its high-tech manufacturing capabilities.

The technology was premiered at SEMICON India 2026, inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and subsequently showcased at the 25th CII Energy Efficiency Summit in the presence of Tejpreet Singh Chopra, Chairman, CII Energy Efficiency Council and Founder & Chairman, Bharat Light & Power.

With India targeting a significant expansion in advanced manufacturing and continuing its transition towards its national net-zero goals, the company said improving the efficiency and resilience of industrial power infrastructure has become increasingly important. Electrical distortion and harmonic losses can contribute to energy wastage, equipment stress, downtime and higher Scope 2 emissions across industrial facilities.

The iC7 Ultra Low Harmonics Drive has been developed to address these challenges at the electrical source. The drive incorporates an integrated active front-end rectifier, enabling it to reduce Total Harmonic Distortion of Current (THDi) to below 3 per cent while maintaining a power factor of 1.0.

According to Danfoss India, reducing harmonic distortion can help industrial facilities minimise power losses across their electrical networks and improve the utilisation of available clean energy.

Another key feature of the technology is its potential to reduce the size of upstream electrical infrastructure. The solution can enable facilities to operate with transformers and backup generators that are 10 per cent to 25 per cent smaller, without compromising performance or operational resilience. This right-sizing can reduce material requirements and capital expenditure while also lowering the embodied carbon associated with new industrial infrastructure.

The drive is also targeted at industries where power quality and equipment reliability are critical. By reducing electrical and thermal stress on connected machinery, the technology is designed to support sensitive applications, including semiconductor manufacturing and advanced electronics production.

Ravichandran Purushothaman, President, Danfoss India & CII Southern Chairman, stated, “India is rapidly shifting from just a consumer market to a global powerhouse for advanced engineering and manufacturing. Showcasing our next-gen iC7 technology at both SEMICON India and the CII Energy Efficiency Summit highlights the deep synergy between electronics infrastructure and clean energy. Through relentless innovation and scalable local design, we remain fiercely committed to eliminating power distortions, slashing industrial emissions, and building a self-reliant, energy-secure future.”

Mandar Vaijanapurkar, Head of Drives Sales, Marketing & Services, Danfoss India, added, “As modern industrial facilities adopt sophisticated automation, maintaining high power quality has become non-negotiable for operational reliability and business continuity. The iC7 Ultra Low Harmonic Drive is engineered to tackle electrical distortion directly at its source, allowing customers to safeguard sensitive equipment, cut down on infrastructure stress, and boost overall network performance. By delivering cleaner electricity, this solution builds the operational resilience required for India’s next phase of industrial expansion.”

The introduction of the iC7 Ultra Low Harmonics Drive adds to Danfoss India’s focus on power electronics and energy-efficiency technologies for industrial applications, particularly as India’s manufacturing ecosystem becomes increasingly automated, energy-intensive and technology-driven.
