Hyderabad Metro is set for a major fleet expansion, with 60 new standard-gauge metro coaches proposed under a Rs 923.62-crore procurement programme to cater to future passenger demand.
Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Limited (DMRC) has invited bids on behalf of Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL) for the design, manufacture, supply, testing and commissioning of the 60 coaches. The tender, issued on October 16, also includes comprehensive maintenance for 15 years.
The project is estimated at Rs 923.62 crore, excluding GST, and will be funded by HMRL through the Telangana government. The contract provides a completion period of 125 weeks for design, manufacturing, supply, testing and commissioning.
The scope also covers maintenance of associated depot machinery, testing equipment, special tools and other facilities required to support the new rolling stock, along with training.
Bids can be submitted until January 13, 2027, with technical bids scheduled to open the following day. However, no confirmed date has been announced for delivery of the coaches or their entry into passenger service.
The fleet augmentation comes as Hyderabad moves ahead with plans to expand its metro network. HMRL is also pursuing clearances for seven proposed Phase-II corridors spanning 122.9 km, alongside work related to the 7.5-km Darulshifa–Chandrayangutta stretch of the Old City corridor.
