Tata Motors and Iveco Group begin new chapter as global commercial mobility enterprise

Tata Motors and Iveco Group begin new chapter as global commercial mobility enterprise

Tata Motors and Iveco Group have formally embarked on a new phase of their partnership, bringing together their respective commercial vehicle businesses to establish a global commercial mobility enterprise with a presence across more than 130 countries. Ranked fourth globally among commercial vehicle manufacturers, the combined enterprise brings together complementary product portfolios, engineering capabilities and market strengths across Europe, India, South America, Asia, the Middle East and Africa.

The announcement was made at a global press meet in Turin, Italy, in the presence of senior leadership from both organisations. With combined revenues of approximately €21 billion (over INR 2,28,000 crore) and annual sales of around 590,000 units, the enterprise aims to strengthen its competitiveness and accelerate growth across markets and technology cycles.

Commenting on the development, N Chandrasekaran, Chairman, Tata Sons, Tata Motors and Iveco Group, said: “Today marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for Tata Motors and Iveco Group. Two strong and successful organisations, united by shared values, a common commitment to sustainable mobility and an ambition to shape the future of commercial transportation, have come together to create a truly global commercial mobility enterprise. We will invest for the long term, enable ideas and capabilities to flow in both directions, and harness our combined scale, reach and talent to shape a future of mobility that is safer, smarter, more connected and more sustainable. I take this opportunity to express my appreciation to the Italian Government, the regulatory authorities across jurisdictions, our employees, shareholders and all the stakeholders whose trust, cooperation and support have helped us reach this important milestone. I also warmly welcome our colleagues from Iveco Group into the Tata family and look forward to all that we can achieve together.”

The combined organisation brings together more than 73,000 employees, 27 manufacturing facilities, 25 R&D centres and approximately 9,300 sales and service centres worldwide. This extensive network is expected to provide a strong foundation for improving customer reach, strengthening distribution capabilities and accelerating the development of next-generation commercial mobility solutions.

Girish Wagh, MD & CEO, Tata Motors, said: “We are pleased to turn our strategic vision into an operational reality alongside our colleagues at Iveco Group. Together we have a compelling opportunity to create greater value for our customers and stakeholders. Our complementary portfolios, capabilities and geographic strengths provide a strong foundation for growth, while ensuring continuity from day one for customers, dealers and partners. Our ambition is to build a stronger enterprise by combining our strengths in engineering, new age technologies, sourcing, distribution and customer networks. We will accelerate innovation, broaden our reach and bring advanced solutions to customers faster and more competitively.”

Complementary Portfolios and Technology Capabilities

A key strength of the combination lies in the complementary nature of the two companies’ product portfolios and geographical presence. Tata Motors brings a commercial vehicle range spanning sub-1 ton to 55 ton cargo vehicles, alongside passenger mobility solutions ranging from 10-seater to 51-seater applications. Its established presence in India and emerging markets across Asia, the Middle East and North Africa provides a strong foundation for further expansion.

Iveco Group contributes capabilities across light, medium and heavy commercial vehicles, as well as city and intercity buses, with established positions in Europe and Latin America. Its powertrain business, FPT, further strengthens the combined enterprise through technologies serving on-road, off-road, marine and power-generation applications.

The combined engineering and technology strengths will cover conventional internal combustion engines, natural gas, battery-electric, hydrogen and other emerging low- and zero-emission solutions. By pursuing multiple technology pathways, the enterprise aims to address varying customer requirements and regional market conditions while supporting the transition towards cleaner commercial transportation.

Olof Persson, Chief Executive Officer, Iveco Group, said: “This is a defining moment for Iveco Group, and one we approach with confidence and great energy. We begin this new chapter proudly, with the brands, people, capabilities and industrial heritage that have shaped our company, alongside Tata Motors, a partner of great strength, with a deep understanding of the commercial vehicle business and a shared long-term perspective and commitment to sustainable transport. I want to thank our employees, customers, dealers, suppliers and partners for their trust and support. We now have the opportunity to build on everything Iveco Group has achieved, unlock new possibilities with Tata Motors and create an even stronger future.”

Continuity with a Global Outlook

While the combination creates opportunities for greater scale and cross-market collaboration, both organisations will retain their distinct brands and identities. Iveco Group will continue to be headquartered in Turin, Italy, with its existing teams, industrial footprint and brands maintaining their individual identities. Tata Motors will support Iveco Group’s existing strategy and investment plans while both organisations explore opportunities to leverage their complementary strengths.

The partnership is also expected to create wider opportunities for suppliers, dealers, distributors and other ecosystem partners through expanded market access, technology exchange and a broader customer base.

With their combined industrial heritage, global network and expertise across commercial vehicles and powertrain technologies, Tata Motors and Iveco Group are positioning the new enterprise to play a larger role in shaping the future of commercial mobility. The focus will be on accelerating innovation, expanding market reach and delivering safer, smarter and more sustainable transportation solutions to customers worldwide.
