Adani Enterprises Rolls Out India’s First Hydrogen-Powered Truck from Chhattisgarh

Adani Enterprises, the flagship firm of the Adani Group, has introduced India’s first hydrogen fuel cell truck. The vehicle marks a shift from diesel-heavy logistics to a greener, emission-free alternative across the company’s cargo operations.

The truck was launched in Raipur by Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, who praised the initiative as a bold step in environmental responsibility. “The launch of India’s first hydrogen-powered truck in Chhattisgarh reflects the state’s commitment to sustainability. Such initiatives will significantly reduce our carbon footprint and set a new standard for industry. Chhattisgarh is not only at the forefront in meeting the country’s electricity demands but also leads by example in adopting sustainable practices,” he stated.

Developed through collaboration with an Indian and international energy technology firm and a major auto manufacturer, the hydrogen-powered truck can carry up to 40 ton of cargo over a range of 200 km. It runs on fuel cells and is fitted with three hydrogen tanks and integrated smart technology. The first unit has been deployed to transport coal from the Gare Pelma III Block to a state-run power plant.

Adani Enterprises was appointed as the mine developer and operator for the Gare Pelma III block by the Chhattisgarh State Power Generation Company Ltd through a competitive bidding process.

Dr Vinay Prakash, CEO – Natural Resources and Director, Adani Enterprises, highlighted the move as part of the company’s larger sustainability push. “The initiative for hydrogen-powered trucks is a significant step towards Adani Group’s commitment to decarbonization and responsible mining. We are creating model mines with minimal environmental impact by incorporating autonomous dozer push technologies, solar power, digital initiatives, and tree transplanters to relocate trees. We aim to ensure affordable and reliable electricity for all while pioneering new standards in sustainable mining practices,” he said.

The hydrogen trucking program is being jointly executed by Adani Natural Resources (ANR) and Adani New Industries Ltd (ANIL). While ANR manages logistics and mining operations, ANIL provides hydrogen fuel cells and also manufactures green hydrogen, solar modules, wind turbines, and batteries.

With zero harmful emissions and only water vapor as exhaust, hydrogen fuel cell trucks offer the same power and range as their diesel counterparts—without the pollution or noise. Adani’s move sets the tone for a cleaner, smarter future in heavy transport and responsible resource extraction.
