Adani Group and Embraer select Dholera for regional aircraft assembly facility

Adani Group and Brazilian aerospace manufacturer Embraer are set to strengthen India’s aerospace manufacturing landscape with plans to establish a final assembly line (FAL) for regional aircraft at Dholera in Gujarat. The proposed facility is expected to play a pivotal role in advancing domestic aircraft production capabilities while supporting the country’s broader self-reliance objectives in the aviation sector.

The initiative builds on a strategic collaboration between Adani Defence & Aerospace and Embraer focused on regional transport aircraft manufacturing in India. Under the proposed framework, the facility will initially undertake aircraft assembly operations, with a gradual increase in local sourcing, component manufacturing, and indigenous value addition in subsequent phases.

Dholera Special Investment Region has emerged as the preferred destination for the project due to its rapidly developing industrial infrastructure, strategic connectivity, and growing status as a major manufacturing hub. The greenfield smart city is increasingly attracting large-scale investments across advanced manufacturing sectors, making it a suitable location for aerospace production activities.

The proposed assembly line is also expected to complement the government’s efforts to enhance regional air connectivity through the UDAN programme. By supporting the availability of regional aircraft within the country, the project could contribute to expanding air services across underserved and emerging aviation markets.

While the site selection process has been completed, the scale and execution timeline of the facility will largely depend on future aircraft procurement commitments from Indian airline operators. Industry observers view the development as an important step toward creating a stronger domestic aerospace ecosystem and reducing dependence on imported aircraft manufacturing capabilities.

Once operational, the facility is expected to generate skilled employment opportunities, encourage technology transfer, strengthen the local supplier base, and position India as a more significant participant in the global aerospace value chain. The collaboration also reflects growing international confidence in India’s manufacturing ecosystem and its ambitions to become a key centre for aviation and aerospace production.
