Ambuja Cements has taken a significant stride toward sustainability by commissioning its 200 MW solar power project in Khavda. This marks the first operational phase of its ambitious 1 GW Renewable Energy Project, underscoring the company’s commitment to decarbonizing its operations.
The newly commissioned solar project is expected to yield substantial benefits, including a remarkable 70 per cent reduction in power costs. Additionally, this achievement sets the stage for enhanced profitability by positively impacting the company’s EBITDA.
Ajay Kapur, CEO – Cement Business, Adani Group, highlighted the initiative’s importance, stating, “Growing responsibly and sustainably is fundamental to our ESG excellence journey as we are proudly committed to achieving Net Zero emissions by 2050. This is the first phase of our 1 GW Renewable Power Project in our efforts to decarbonize the value chain. We aim to power 60 per cent of our total energy consumption from green power sources by FY’28. This helps us in reducing our overall cost and delivering strong value to our stakeholders. Our sustainability principles are integrated into all aspects of our business and reflect our forward-thinking vision.”
The project, which received standing clearance from the Western Regional Load Dispatch Centre (WRLDC) on December 12, 2024, is part of a Rs. 10,000 crore investment by Ambuja Cements in renewable energy solutions. This includes 1 GW of solar and wind energy projects along with 376 MW of Waste Heat Recovery Systems (WHRS).
The company is advancing rapidly on the remaining 806 MW capacity. A 156 MW wind power installation in Khavda and an additional 300 MW solar power setup in Rajasthan are expected to commence operations by March 2025. The balance 350 MW solar capacity is slated for commissioning by June 2025.
Ambuja Cements, renowned for its environmentally responsible legacy, continues to champion decarbonization in the cement industry.
