Andhra Pradesh launches Rs 10 lakh crore plan for clean energy revolution

The Andhra Pradesh Government has launched an ambitious plan to attract investments worth Rs 10 lakh crore into the renewable energy sector.

The Andhra Pradesh Government has launched an ambitious plan to attract investments worth Rs 10 lakh crore into the state’s renewable energy sector, aiming to position itself as a leader in the green energy transition. The newly unveiled Integrated Clean Energy (ICE) Policy outlines the state’s vision to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2047 by promoting solar, wind, and round-the-clock renewable energy projects.

Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu introduced the policy, which offers incentives to industries and sectors contributing to clean energy efforts. These include assistance in land acquisition and subsidies on power, designed to drive investment and create around 7,50,000 jobs, both directly and indirectly.

The ICE policy sets ambitious renewable energy targets for Andhra Pradesh, including 78.5 GW of solar energy, 35 GW of wind power, and 22 GW of pumped storage. Additionally, it outlines plans to develop 1.5 MTPA of green hydrogen manufacturing, 25 GWh of battery storage capacity, and a range of projects focused on producing ethanol and biogas from biomass. The government also intends to establish 5,000 EV charging stations and aims to boost cleantech manufacturing with a proposed 25-30 GW capacity.

In a push for innovation and skill development, the policy will also see the establishment of the University for Green Energy and Circular Economy (UGC) through a public-private partnership. A Clean Energy Knowledge & Skill Development Centre (CEKSDC) is also planned to enhance collaboration between academia, think tanks, and industry stakeholders.

With the ICE policy in place for five years, Andhra Pradesh is positioning itself as a future hub for renewable energy, aligning its goals with India’s broader net-zero targets by 2047.
