Avaada Group has taken a significant step toward bolstering the country’s clean energy ambitions by laying the foundation stone for its new manufacturing facility, Avaada Electro Pvt Ltd, in the Addl. Butibori Industrial Park, Nagpur. The foundation stone was laid by Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra.
The new facility is part of Avaada’s massive Rs 13,650 crore investment in India’s renewable energy sector. This super factory is expected to play a pivotal role in India’s goal of reducing carbon emissions by 50 per cent by 2030 and achieving net-zero emissions by 2070. The facility will focus on the entire solar value chain, from ingot-wafer production to PV cells and module manufacturing. Additionally, Avaada plans to manufacture next-generation batteries and electrolyzers at the plant.
Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Minister, Maharashtra, speaking at the event, highlighted the significance of the new facility, stating, “This facility demonstrates Avaada’s commitment to Maharashtra’s industrial growth and aligns with both state and national objectives to promote sustainable energy solutions. It reinforces Maharashtra as a key hub for solar manufacturing, and we are excited to see the impact it will have on the region’s economy and environment.”
The first phase of Avaada’s project will see the launch of a Wafer to Module initiative with a capacity of 5 GW for solar cells and 3 GW for modules. These cells will support Avaada’s existing Dadri Module Plant and will incorporate TOPCon Cell Technology to produce high-efficiency cells and modules.
Avaada’s new factory is also expected to create over 5,000 jobs across various roles. To ensure a strong talent pipeline, the company is partnering with local ITIs (Industrial Training Institutes) and collaborating with NSDC (National Skill Development Corporation) and NCVET (National Council for Vocational Education and Training) to focus on skill development, particularly for operators and technicians. Notably, the facility is aiming for a workforce comprised of 60% women, marking a progressive step towards gender diversity.
In addition to the main manufacturing facility, Avaada plans to establish ancillary units focused on the production of glass, aluminum frames, junction boxes, and other key components. These ancillary units are expected to create approximately 1,000 additional jobs, further strengthening the company’s domestic supply chain.
Vineet Mittal, Chairman, Avaada Group, commented on the initiative, saying, “This project is a crucial milestone in Avaada’s journey towards driving India’s clean energy goals. Through strategic partnerships, local job creation, and advanced technologies, we are committed to shaping India’s renewable energy landscape while contributing to the country’s broader economic and environmental objectives.”
The fully integrated super factory will feature world-class amenities for its employees, including transportation services, on-site medical rooms, safety measures, a crèche, and sports facilities. With such an extensive focus on employee well-being and the local community, Avaada is poised to make a significant contribution to India’s green energy revolution.
