The foundation stone of the long-awaited Belagavi Dharwad Railway line, the new direct rail project, is to be laid in January 2023. This project was proposed by the late member of Parliament Suresh Angadi, the then Union Minister of State for Railways. It was first envisioned in the year 2007 and was earmarked in the Union Budget 2021-22 which had to be delayed due to issues faced during the land acquisition procedure. In the year 2019, a proposal and was submitted to the Government. The PM Modi who will be visiting Belgavi will inaugurate the project. Railway Line’s capacity to carry traffic between Belagavi and Dharwad is likely to be reduced to one hour which earlier was a three hour long journey. In the construction of Belagavi Dharwad Railway line, the direct rail line will connect three cities (Belagavi-Dharwad-Hubli). A total of 11 Stations will be built and it is estimated that if this line is constructed, it will help in the quick transportation of goods along with passengers.
