Bhopal Metro nears launch as final safety inspections begin

Bhopal Metro Nears Launch as Final Safety Inspections Begin

The long-awaited Bhopal Metro project is inching closer to its operational debut, with the final safety inspections currently underway. The Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) is assessing the readiness of the priority corridor, marking one of the last major steps before passenger services commence.

The ongoing evaluation covers the stretch between Subhash Nagar Depot and AIIMS Bhopal, which features eight important stations along the route. The inspection, carried out under the supervision of the Madhya Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (MPMRCL), is examining a wide range of components — from infrastructure and passenger facilities to operational systems and safety measures.

Inspectors are reviewing critical aspects such as entry and exit points, lifts, escalators, restrooms, fire safety installations, power and telecom systems, control rooms, and security setups. The review also extends to station aesthetics, with particular attention to the overall design and beautification efforts aimed at enhancing commuter experience.

Led by MPMRCL Managing Director S Krishna Chaitanya, the inspection team conducted an extensive on-site assessment from AIIMS Metro Station to Board Office Square Metro Station. Once these final checks are complete, Bhopal will officially join the expanding network of Indian cities boasting modern metro connectivity — a milestone expected to transform the city’s public transport landscape and ease urban mobility pressures.
