Coastal Corridor takes shape in South Gujarat to boost regional connectivity

Work has commenced on a key coastal highway project in South Gujarat, marking a significant step toward enhancing connectivity between Surat and Bharuch districts. The development, initiated at Pardi Jakhri village in Olpad taluka, is set to transform travel along this industrial and coastal stretch.

Planned at an estimated investment of Rs 356 crore, the project involves the construction of an approximately 18 km four-lane highway linking Hazira in Surat to Kantyajal in Bharuch. Once completed, the corridor is expected to sharply reduce the existing travel distance of nearly 55 km to about 18–20 km, resulting in substantial time savings and improved route efficiency.

The proposed alignment runs along the coastal belt, passing through several villages in the Olpad region, including Dandi, Mor, Nes, Bhagva and Pardi Jakhri. By bringing these areas closer to key industrial hubs, the project is poised to enhance mobility for local residents while strengthening logistics and transport networks in the region.

Beyond easing congestion and shortening travel time, the highway is anticipated to support economic activity by improving access to ports, industrial zones and coastal settlements. The initiative also reflects a broader push toward infrastructure-led regional development, particularly in strategically important coastal zones.

The groundbreaking event saw the presence of local representatives and officials from the state highways department, signalling coordinated efforts to expedite the project and deliver improved connectivity across South Gujarat.
