CSL Partners with Korea's KSOE to Strengthen Maritime Capabilities

Cochin Shipyard Ltd (CSL) has entered into a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering Co Ltd (KSOE), South Korea. The agreement outlines a long-term collaboration aimed at enhancing competencies across the shipbuilding and maritime sectors.

The MoU sets the foundation for a multi-dimensional partnership between the two companies. Key areas of cooperation include joint exploration of shipbuilding opportunities both within India and internationally, technical collaboration to align with global benchmarks, and initiatives to boost productivity and capacity utilization.

Workforce development also features prominently in the agreement, with joint efforts planned to upskill maritime professionals and build a future-ready talent pool. The partnership also aims to evaluate additional avenues of collaboration in shipbuilding and related domains.

KSOE brings extensive global expertise to the table, managing some of the world’s largest and most advanced shipyards, such as Hyundai Heavy Industries, Hyundai Mipo Dockyard, and Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries. The South Korean firm is recognized for its capabilities in commercial and naval vessel construction as well as offshore engineering.

CSL has earned a solid track record of delivering complex maritime projects. Notable among its achievements is the construction of India’s first Indigenous Aircraft Carrier. The company continues to cater to high-profile clients like the Indian Navy, Indian Coast Guard, and Shipping Corporation of India. Its international footprint includes successful deliveries to clients across Norway, the Netherlands, Denmark, the USA, Germany, and the UAE. CSL is also actively engaged in the development of green ships and short-sea vessels.

This collaboration aligns with India’s broader maritime ambitions under the Maritime India Vision 2030 and Maritime Amrit Kaal Vision 2047. These initiatives, supported by measures such as the Rs 250 billion Maritime Development Fund, aim to transform India into a global maritime hub through sustained investment in shipbuilding, port modernization, and infrastructure enhancement.

The agreement between CSL and KSOE is expected to significantly bolster India’s maritime ecosystem by fostering innovation, knowledge exchange, and international collaboration—advancing the nation’s goal of maritime self-reliance and global competitiveness.
