A groundbreaking project is underway as the Mussoorie Sky Car Company Pvt Ltd, led by FIL Industries Pvt Ltd, in collaboration with POMA SAS France and SRM Engineering LLP, begins work on India’s longest ropeway system. This exceptional mono-cable ropeway, with an estimated budget of Rs 300 crore, will span over 5.5 km, linking the picturesque cities of Dehradun and Mussoorie. The monumental endeavor is expected to be fully operational by September 2026.
The upcoming ropeway will revolutionize transportation in the region by reducing the 33 km drive from Dehradun to Mussoorie, which can take up to 3 hours during peak traffic, to a mere 15 minutes. This substantial improvement in connectivity is expected to ease traffic congestion and enhance the travel experience for locals and tourists alike, particularly during festive seasons.
One of the most exciting aspects of this project is the introduction of 10-seater cabins, a first in India. These spacious, fully ventilated, and glazed cabins come equipped with automatic opening and closing doors, providing a comfortable and secure mode of transportation. Initially, the ropeway will have the capacity to carry up to 1,300 passengers per hour in each direction.
Moreover, the ropeway is designed to operate year-round, ensuring convenient and reliable transportation even in adverse weather conditions, including rain and snow. This makes it a pivotal development for both urban mobility and tourism in Uttarakhand, marking the first ropeway project in India to serve dual purposes of enhancing local transportation and boosting the tourism sector.
“We are very excited to launch this mega ropeway project in the state of Uttarakhand,” said Owais Altaf Syed, Group Director of FIL Industries Ltd. “FIL Industries’ second ropeway project in India, after our very successfully running Skyview by Empyrean project in Patnitop, Jammu. The Mussoorie-Dehradun sustainable ropeway project is being built with state-of-the-art, world-class infrastructure. Once ready, it will not only provide a source of employment and bring in revenue to the state; it will also attract tourists from across the world, contributing considerably to the state GDP.”
FIL Industries Pvt Ltd has a distinguished history of creating sustainable tourism destinations. Their Skyview by Empyrean project in Patnitop, Jammu, stands as a testament to their commitment to responsible tourism. The project has not only reduced travel time but also significantly lowered vehicular pollution. Following this success, the Mussoorie Skycar Company Pvt Ltd is set to be a game-changer in Uttarakhand, offering modern urban mobility solutions and integrated infrastructure development, including hospitality, food and beverage services, and retail facilities. These additional offerings are expected to invigorate the local economies of both Dehradun and Mussoorie.
The Mussoorie-Dehradun ropeway project promises to be a landmark development in the region, fostering economic growth, reducing travel times, and contributing to the preservation of the natural beauty of Uttarakhand’s mountains.
