DHL Global Forwarding and Schneider Electric, have joined hands to redefine the logistics landscape with a pioneering approach to multi-modal shipping. Their strategic alliance aims to confront the ecological impact of air freight by seamlessly integrating sustainable aviation fuels (SAFs) into their supply chain operations.
In a move hailed as revolutionary, DHL Global Forwarding and Schneider Electric have successfully inaugurated two multi-modal shipping bridges, linking Singapore to North America and India to North America. The primary goal? Mitigating Scope 3 carbon emissions associated with air freight, a notorious contributor to environmental degradation.
Initiated in March 2023, the pilot has yielded promising results, with both the Singapore-North America and India-North America bridges achieving an impressive 20 per cent reduction in carbon emissions. Schneider Electric envisions expanding this eco-friendly initiative, planning to design and implement a total of eight global multi-modal bridges with logistics partners, offering an on-demand solution for sustainable shipping.
Acknowledging air freight’s indispensability in global supply chains, the partners strategically leverage a combination of air and sea transport to curtail carbon emissions by up to 40 per cent in specific regional shipment lanes. This innovative approach not only bolsters the environmental sustainability of shipping but also addresses the fiscal challenges associated with adopting SAFs.
The transformative aspect of this collaboration lies in its integration of multi-modal shipping not merely for operational continuity but as a strategic tool to combat Scope 3 carbon emissions. DHL Global Forwarding’s end-to-end capability, combined with the utilization of SAF through its GoGreen Plus service, presents a robust and nimble supply chain solution that not only meets but surpasses sustainability objectives.
As the global community grapples with the exigencies of climate change, the partnership between DHL Global Forwarding and Schneider Electric emerges as a beacon of optimism, showcasing the catalytic potential of innovative logistics solutions. The green revolution in global shipping is underway, and these industry behemoths are at the forefront, steering towards a more sustainable future.
