Doosan Bobcat has successfully expanded its Chennai factory to support the production of mini excavators, marking a significant milestone in its global manufacturing capabilities. An inauguration ceremony celebrating this achievement was attended by esteemed global executives, including Doosan Bobcat CEO and vice chairman Scott Park and Hyungwon Park, president of Doosan Bobcat Asia, Latin America, and Oceania.
The expansion project, completed in approximately nine months, adds 11,300 sq m of production space to the existing Chennai factory site. This facility will begin mass production of mini excavators next year, following the installation and stabilization of the new production line.
Doosan Bobcat India (DBIN) has set an ambitious target to sell 8,900 units of equipment annually by 2028. This target includes a mix of existing products such as backhoe loaders and skid-steer loaders, as well as the newly added mini excavators and portable power products manufactured at the Bengaluru factory. Achieving this goal would nearly double DBIN’s sales volume compared to the previous year.
The Chennai factory, inaugurated in 2019, has been a cornerstone of Doosan Bobcat’s production, particularly for backhoe loaders, which it produces exclusively on a global scale. Last year, the factory expanded its product lineup by introducing the smallest skid-steer loader, the ‘S70’, significantly boosting its export volume. Over the past five years, DBIN has achieved a compound average annual growth rate of 22 per cent in sales revenue, measured in Indian Rupees.
Scott Park, CEO and Vice Chairman, Doosan Bobcat emphasized the strategic importance of the Chennai factory, stating, “India is a key region that will propel Doosan Bobcat’s future growth, and the Chennai factory will leap to become a ‘global manufacturing hub’ based on the quality that meets global standards.”
The expansion of the Chennai facility underscores Doosan Bobcat’s commitment to strengthening its presence in India and enhancing its global production capabilities, ensuring the delivery of high-quality construction equipment to markets worldwide.
