GMDA plans elevated corridors and flyovers to ease Gurugram traffic congestion

Gurugram is poised for a significant transformation in urban mobility as the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) has unveiled plans for five elevated road corridors along with seven flyovers and underpasses aimed at creating signal-free travel routes across key parts of the city.

The proposed infrastructure network is designed to address persistent traffic congestion on some of Gurugram’s busiest stretches that witness heavy vehicular movement and recurring bottlenecks. Among the major elevated corridors planned are the NH-8 to Vatika Chowk and Vatika Chowk to Ghata Chowk sections along the Southern Peripheral Road (SPR), Rajiv Chowk to Atul Kataria Chowk, Mahavir Chowk to IFFCO Chowk, and the Atul Kataria Chowk to Dwarka Expressway route through the Old Delhi–Gurgaon Road corridor.

The projects are expected to improve connectivity between important commercial, residential, and transit hubs while reducing travel time across major arterial roads. In addition to the elevated corridors, GMDA has proposed seven flyovers and underpasses at critical intersections including Dadi Sati Chowk, Ambedkar Chowk, and Millennium City Centre to further streamline traffic movement.

As part of its larger infrastructure push, the authority has also approved 51 road-related projects valued at nearly Rs 386 crore, with several works already awarded for execution.

The proposed developments form part of a wider urban improvement strategy focused on strengthening transport infrastructure, drainage systems, green spaces, and civic amenities through integrated planning and accelerated implementation across Gurugram.
