GreenLine Mobility Solutions Ltd, an Essar-backed venture has announced a major capital infusion of US$ 275 million to scale its green transportation ambitions. The funding round, which includes a $20 million contribution from entrepreneur Nikhil Kamath, signals a strategic push toward decarbonising India’s high-emission freight transport landscape.
A substantial portion of the investment is earmarked for the deployment of over 10,000 low-emission trucks and the development of a nationwide support ecosystem. This includes 100 LNG refuelling stations, EV charging infrastructure, and battery swapping facilities—designed to facilitate seamless clean mobility across the country’s industrial corridors.
GreenLine has set its sights on eliminating one million ton of CO₂ annually, supporting India’s larger climate action and energy transition targets. With over 4 million trucks forming the backbone of India’s road freight system, the shift from diesel to cleaner alternatives is seen as critical in reducing emissions from the logistics sector—one of the nation’s highest carbon contributors.
The company’s unique model promises logistics services at a cost comparable to conventional diesel-based solutions, removing the cost barrier that often prevents businesses from making the sustainability leap. This parity in operational costs is expected to drive adoption across sectors, particularly among emission-heavy industries like metals, cement, FMCG, chemicals, and oil & gas.
Currently, GreenLine operates a fleet of more than 650 LNG trucks that have collectively logged over 38 million km, already offsetting around 10,000 ton of carbon emissions. These trucks emit up to 30 per cent less CO₂ than their diesel counterparts, showcasing the potential for large-scale emission reduction with available technologies.
The new investment not only marks a significant growth milestone for GreenLine but also underscores growing investor interest in sustainable logistics solutions. The initiative is also aligned with broader efforts to reduce dependence on fossil fuels and enhance energy security by tapping into cleaner domestic alternatives.
As clean logistics gains momentum, the latest development serves as a call to action for businesses across the value chain to reconsider their freight strategies and embrace greener transport models.
