Chennai Petroleum Corporation Ltd (CPCL) has officially elevated H Shankar to the position of Managing Director. The appointment, now confirmed by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet, places Shankar at the helm of one of India’s significant players in the refining sector.

Having already been steering operations in an interim capacity since mid-July 2024, Shankar now formally assumes full-time charge. With his tenure set to run until March 2029—or until any changes are mandated—this move brings clarity and continuity to CPCL’s leadership at a critical juncture.

Shankar’s career spans more than thirty years, deeply rooted in the petroleum and refining domain. His journey through the ranks includes serving as Director (Technical) at CPCL, where he was instrumental in implementing various technological and operational enhancements.

With a background in mechanical engineering and an MBA in general management, Shankar’s professional portfolio reflects a strong foundation in strategic planning, large-scale project execution, and operations leadership. His work has consistently aligned with cost optimization, timely delivery of resources, and the reinforcement of health, safety, and environmental standards across the board.

As CPCL continues its focus on capacity expansion and energy security initiatives, Shankar’s appointment signals a phase of stability and forward-looking leadership for the organisation.
