Hapag-Lloyd launches ‘Live Position’ tracking for real-time shipment transparency

Hapag-Lloyd debuts 'Live Position' tracking, offering real-time transparency for container shipments worldwide.

Hapag-Lloyd has unveiled its groundbreaking ‘Live Position’ tracking product, marking a significant milestone in the industry’s adoption of IoT (Internet of Things) technology. This innovative solution offers customers unprecedented transparency, allowing them to track the location of their shipments in real time from origin to destination.

Dr Maximilian Rothkopf, Chief Operating Officer at Hapag-Lloyd, expressed the company’s dedication to enhancing service quality and streamlining operations: “The ‘Live Position’ product will contribute to our service quality and increase the ease of doing business with us. It does close the blind spots of global logistics, enabling real-time decision-making and risk mitigation for our customers, while allowing a more efficient steering of our fleet of boxes.”

Henrik Schilling, Head of Global Commercial Development, emphasised Hapag-Lloyd’s commitment to addressing customer concerns and driving innovation: “The participants of our successful pilot phase have already acknowledged that we are going the extra mile to eliminate one of their greatest concerns. Now we would like to take all our customers on this journey to further develop this product. We are currently working on feeding the tracking data into the customers’ operational systems via API. Another milestone for advancing the product will be the Estimated Time of Arrival (ETA) Prediction.”

Key features of the ‘Live Position’ tracking product include a user-friendly interface and easy search functionality, enabling customers to locate their shipments quickly and make real-time adjustments as needed. With more than two-thirds of the dry container fleet already equipped with tracking devices and installations ongoing globally, Hapag-Lloyd is demonstrating its commitment to innovation and customer-centric solutions in container shipping.
