Henkel Adhesives Technologies India Pvt Ltd (Henkel India) has announced the completion of Phase III of its manufacturing facility in Kurkumbh, near Pune. The Kurkumbh site, operational since 2020, addresses the increasing demand for high-performance adhesives, sealants, and surface treatment products in Indian industries. The latest addition to this site is the Loctite plant, inaugurated by Mark Dorn, Executive Vice President of Henkel Adhesive Technologies, alongside other senior management members.
Having entered the Indian market in 1996, Henkel has expanded its footprint in India with strategic investments to match the pace of rapid development. The company currently operates five manufacturing sites, two innovation centres, a customer experience centre, a packaging academy, and an application centre for the footwear industry.
The new Loctite plant at Kurkumbh is a testament to Henkel’s dedication to the Indian market. By localising the product portfolio and reducing import reliance, the plant will better serve Indian businesses. It aims to meet the supply-demand gap for high-performance adhesive solutions in manufacturing, maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO), and automotive components sectors. Henkel Adhesive Technologies is poised to address the needs of these burgeoning markets.
Mark Dorn, Executive Vice President, Henkel Adhesive Technologies, highlighted the strategic importance of the Indian market, stating, “India has emerged as a focus market for Henkel globally. The new Loctite plant highlights our vision to emerge in the country as a self-reliant global market player with a strong local presence. With continued investments, efficient supply chains, and customer-focused solutions, Henkel is committed to driving growth in India and building ecosystems of innovative and sustainable solutions with our partners and customers.”
In addition to its business goals, the Kurkumbh site underscores Henkel’s commitment to sustainability and corporate social responsibility. The site meets the highest sustainability standards and boasts a LEED Gold certification, a rarity among chemical plants. Henkel aims for carbon neutrality at the Kurkumbh site for Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2030, supported by a green electrical energy Power Purchase Agreement and on-site solar panel installation.
S Sunil Kumar, Country President, Henkel India, expressed the significance of the expansion, stating, “The expansion of our manufacturing footprint reinforces Henkel’s sustained commitment to making India a manufacturing hub for advanced and high-performance adhesive, sealant, and functional coating solutions. A key highlight of the new Loctite plant is the Automated Storage and Retrieval System (ASRS), which enables fast execution of material storage and retrieval. The plant will leverage Industry 4.0, optimise production efficiency, and further drive profitable, organic growth for Henkel India, while continuing to contribute to the ‘Make in India’ initiative of the Indian Government.”
With the completion of Phase III, Henkel India is set to continue its journey of growth, innovation, and sustainability, further establishing its leadership in the Indian market.
