In a pioneering move towards sustainable and environmentally conscious practices, Hindustan Zinc, a prominent player in the Zinc, Lead, and Silver industry and a subsidiary of the Vedanta Group, has recently inked a deal with Inland EV Green Services. This strategic collaboration is set to introduce 10 cutting-edge electric trucks, each boasting an impressive 55 metric ton capacity. The primary focus of these eco-friendly vehicles will be the inter-operations transport of concentrates.
Arun Misra, the CEO of Hindustan Zinc and Executive Director of Vedanta, expressed the significance of this partnership with Inland EV Green Services, marking a substantial leap forward in their decarbonisation journey. The integration of these electric trucks into their fleet aligns with the company’s Sustainable Development Goals, specifically their Science-Based Targets initiative (SBTi) commitment. This commitment aims to reduce 50 per cent of absolute Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions and achieve a further 25 per cent reduction in absolute Scope 3 GHG emissions by FY2030, measured from the base year FY2020. Furthermore, the ambitious goal is to attain net-zero emissions across the entire value chain by FY2050.
The electric trucks, operating under the brand ‘Enviiiro Wheels,’ have undergone rigorous testing over two successful years on Indian roads. IPLTech Electric, a venture of the Murugappa Group, spearheaded this initiative, showcasing the reliability and efficiency of these electric vehicles. One noteworthy feature is their rapid charging capability, allowing them to charge from 20 per cent to 100 per cent in under 90 minute.
Hindustan Zinc’s commitment to embracing sustainable practices extends beyond the introduction of electric trucks. Their holistic approach reflects a vision for responsible and eco-conscious operations, placing them proudly at the forefront of sustainability within their industry. With ‘Enviiiro Wheels’ leading the charge, Inland EV Green Services remains dedicated to introducing innovative solutions that contribute to a more eco-friendly planet.
This groundbreaking collaboration not only signifies a shift towards cleaner and greener transportation but also underscores Hindustan Zinc’s dedication to reducing its environmental impact and contributing to a more sustainable future.
