Jindal Stainless and AB Energia commission Odisha’s largest captive solar energy plant

Jindal Stainless and AB Energia Commission Odisha’s Largest Captive Solar Energy Plant

Jindal Stainless in collaboration with AB Energia Solutions Pvt Ltd has successfully commissioned a pioneering solar energy project at its manufacturing facility in Jajpur, Odisha. With a cumulative capacity exceeding 30 MWp, the project stands as the largest captive solar energy installation within a single industrial campus in Odisha.

The project comprises a 7.324 MWp floating solar plant and a 23.02 MWp rooftop solar system. Collectively, the plant is expected to generate approximately 44.3 million units (MU) of green energy annually, significantly reducing the facility’s reliance on conventional grid power. This renewable energy output is sufficient to power between 12,000 to 15,000 households, while also enabling an annual reduction of approximately 32,208 metric ton of carbon dioxide emissions.

The floating solar plant has been strategically deployed over an internal reservoir, converting previously underutilized water bodies into productive assets that simultaneously reduce water evaporation and generate clean energy. Complementing this, the rooftop solar installation spans across 10 industrial roofs of varying elevations, maximizing space utilization and energy generation.

Highlighting the significance of the achievement, Abhyuday Jindal, Managing Director, Jindal Stainless, stated,
“At Jindal Stainless, we’re accelerating our progress towards achieving our Net Zero goals and investing in sustainable infrastructure through strategic partnerships. The commissioning of Odisha’s largest captive solar energy plant at our Jajpur facility is a major leap in this journey. We are redefining the future of stainless steel manufacturing in India by integrating innovative renewable energy solutions and staying accountable to global sustainability standards.”

From an engineering and energy solutions standpoint, the project also marks a new benchmark in sustainable innovation. Speaking on the occasion, Siddharth Bhatia, Managing Director, AB Energia Solutions Pvt Ltd, said,
“Delivering this landmark project at Jindal Stainless’ Jajpur facility exemplifies AB Energia’s commitment to pioneering sustainable energy solutions. By transforming unused water bodies into productive assets and optimizing rooftop spaces, we are setting new benchmarks for green innovation in India’s industrial sector. By enabling a transition away from fossil fuels and toward renewable sources, projects like this not only drastically reduce greenhouse gas emissions but also enhance operational efficiency, cost stability, and long-term competitiveness for industrial players. As demand for low-carbon ‘green steel’ rises globally, such initiatives position Indian industry at the forefront of sustainable manufacturing, ensuring resilience and relevance in a rapidly evolving market landscape.”

This initiative underscores Jindal Stainless’ and AB Energia’s shared commitment to sustainability, innovation, and the advancement of India’s green energy landscape.
