Jupiter Wagons Ltd (JWL) has rebranded its subsidiary, Bonatrans India Pvt Ltd, as Jupiter Tatravagonka Rail Wheel Factory Pvt Ltd, marking a significant step in its ongoing expansion efforts. As part of this transformation, the company is investing Rs 2,500 crore to establish a new state-of-the-art facility in Odisha, aimed at boosting production capacity and enhancing its contribution to the ‘Make in India’ initiative.
This facility will enable JWL to increase the production of forged wheelsets from 20,000 units to 1,00,000 annually by 2027. The plant, which will cater to both domestic and international markets, reflects the company’s commitment to strengthening its position within the global supply chain. By integrating a new forging line, JWL aims to improve manufacturing efficiency, quality control, and the timely delivery of critical components.
The contract for the advanced forging technology has been awarded to the German engineering firm Schuler Pressen GmbH, emphasizing JWL’s focus on adopting cutting-edge manufacturing processes. This collaboration is expected to streamline operations and enhance the company’s operational margins, particularly in its wagon manufacturing business.
Additionally, Jupiter Wagons has inaugurated the Jupiter Tatravagonka Rail Wheel Factory in Aurangabad, the first of its kind in India to manufacture wheelsets for both domestic consumption and export. Initially, the plant will produce 1,000 wheelsets per month, with plans to scale up to 5,000 wheelsets per month over the next two years. This new facility aims to reduce India’s dependence on imported wheelsets while addressing the growing demands of both the local and international rail sectors.
Senior leadership from Jupiter Wagons, Tatravagonka a s, Andritz, and Schuler India were present at the event, underscoring the strategic importance of these partnerships. By reducing supply chain costs and enhancing manufacturing efficiency, JWL’s new facility is set to play a crucial role in meeting the demands of India’s rail sector and expanding the country’s export capabilities.
