Lubrizol announces expansion in India with new manufacturing facility in Aurangabad

Lubrizol’s investment in Aurangabad underscores its commitment to growth and innovation in India’s industrial and transportation markets.

The Lubrizol Corporation has announced investment in India with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to acquire a 120-acre plot in Aurangabad. The company plans to construct a new state-of-the-art manufacturing facility on the site, marking its largest investment ever in India at approximately US$200 million.

This new facility will become Lubrizol’s second-largest manufacturing site globally and its largest in India upon completion. The construction will be carried out in phases over the coming years, with ample room for future expansion.

“Lubrizol has made meaningful investments in India for more than five decades,” said Flavio Kliger, President, Lubrizol Additives. “This new state-of-the-art manufacturing facility will allow us to enhance our local capacity and capabilities for our Additives business with the potential to support other Lubrizol businesses and regions in the future.”

The Aurangabad plant signifies Lubrizol’s commitment to accelerating growth and strengthening its local-for-local capabilities. This announcement follows the company’s significant investment in the region in 2023, which included a $150 million pledge for the construction of the world’s largest CPVC resin plant in Vilayat, Gujarat, expanding capacity at Lubrizol’s site in Dahej, Gujarat, opening a grease lab in Navi Mumbai, and establishing its first Global Capability Centre in Pune.

“Lubrizol understands the importance of a local-for-local approach, from India-based manufacturing to in-region innovation to continued investment in a local talent,” says Bhavana Bindra, Managing Director, Lubrizol IMEA (India, Middle East and Africa). “We look forward to continuing to be partners in progress to our customers and serve as a catalyst for growth and inspired breakthroughs.”

The new facility will support growing demand within India’s transportation and industrial fluid markets and provide opportunities for exporting to surrounding countries and other Lubrizol sites. The commencement of manufacturing at the Aurangabad site is expected to align with Lubrizol’s 100th anniversary in 2028.

“This announcement underscores our continued commitment to our employees, our partners and our customers in the region,” said Nitin Mengi, Vice President Lubrizol Additives IMEA and Chairman & Managing Director, Lubrizol India Pvt Ltd. “The growing transportation and industrial markets in India represent a tremendous opportunity, and Lubrizol is thrilled to be a part of the bright future of these industries.”
