Madhya Pradesh approves Rs 5,163 crore boost for power transmission infrastructure

Madhya Pradesh Approves Rs 5,163 Crore Boost for Power Transmission Infrastructure

The Madhya Pradesh Government has cleared a major capital expenditure plan of Rs 5,163 crore aimed at modernising and expanding the state’s power transmission infrastructure over the next five financial years, from 2025–26 to 2029–30. The investment will be routed through the Madhya Pradesh Power Transmission Company (MPPTCL), with 20 per cent of the funding coming from state equity and the remaining 80 per cent sourced through institutional loans.

A significant portion of the budget—Rs 1,154 crore—has been allocated for upgrading transmission systems in accordance with recommendations from the Central Transmission Utility. In preparation for upcoming high-demand events like Simhastha 2028, Rs 185 crore has been set aside specifically for strengthening the grid infrastructure in those regions.

Another Rs 1,015 crore will be directed towards setting up new Extra High Voltage (EHV) substations, which are critical for enhancing load capacity and stabilising the grid across the state. The plan also includes allocations for transformer upgrades, SCADA system enhancements, LILO (Line-In Line-Out) projects, and conversion of existing overhead lines — all part of a broader strategy to ensure a stable, efficient, and future-ready transmission network.

This comprehensive plan reflects the state’s commitment to scaling up its power infrastructure to meet rising energy demands, ensure uninterrupted supply, and support upcoming urban and industrial developments.
