Maharashtra Government signs $2 billion MoU with Abu Dhabi Ports Group

The Government of Maharashtra has entered into a historic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Abu Dhabi Ports Group, alongside the Investment Resource & Presidential Office of Abu Dhabi. The collaboration marks the first instance of an Indian state partnering directly with the Port of Abu Dhabi, reflecting Maharashtra’s growing prominence on the global maritime stage.

The wide-ranging agreement outlines a potential investment of up to US$ 2 billion across multiple sectors — including shipbuilding, ship-breaking, port infrastructure, water transport, and even sports management. The partnership is expected to strengthen Maharashtra’s position as a leading maritime hub and reinforce its ambitions under the state’s Blue Economy growth vision for 2030.

The signing ceremony saw the participation of key dignitaries from both India and the UAE, including top officials from the Maharashtra Maritime Board and senior executives from the Abu Dhabi Ports and associated business groups.

Through this strategic alliance, Maharashtra aims to accelerate port modernization, foster technological collaboration, expand maritime logistics, and generate new employment opportunities across the coastal economy. The partnership not only symbolizes an expanding global outreach for Maharashtra but also sets a precedent for international cooperation in India’s maritime development framework.
