NLC India Renewables Ltd (NIRL), a subsidiary of NLC India Ltd, has officially partnered with Mahatma Phule Renewable Energy and Infrastructure Technology Ltd (MAHAPREIT) to drive large-scale renewable energy development in Maharashtra. This collaboration, rooted in a prior understanding between the two entities, marks a strategic shift for NIRL as it strengthens its presence in one of India’s most dynamic energy markets.
The agreement outlines the formation of a Joint Venture Company (JVC) that will spearhead the development of up to 2000 MW of renewable energy projects in the initial phase, spanning solar, wind, hybrid, floating solar, battery storage, pumped storage, and solar parks. The first target under this alliance is to establish 500 MW of renewable capacity, with long-term ambitions to scale up to 5,000 MW across the state.
Structurally, the JVC will see NIRL holding a 74 per cent stake, while MAHAPREIT will own the remaining 26 per cent. Under the collaborative model, MAHAPREIT will play a pivotal role in land identification, securing site allocations, and supporting the development of grid evacuation systems. NIRL will handle the preparation of detailed project reports, financial structuring, and the overall project execution.
Power generated through these upcoming ventures will be sold through both regulated and competitive mechanisms, addressing the demands of DISCOMs, government agencies, and the commercial and industrial segments.
This alliance underscores the Central Government’s broader green energy goals by fostering synergies between public sector entities to accelerate sustainable energy growth. It also reinforces the industry’s growing confidence in NLC India’s renewable arm as a capable driver of advanced, scalable clean energy projects.
