Noida International Airport at Jewar is emerging not just as a new aviation gateway for North India, but as one of the country’s most ambitious sustainability-driven infrastructure projects. Conceived with a net-zero vision and developed in partnership with Zurich Airport Group, the airport has already secured India’s first IGBC-certified green campus airport status, underlining its commitment to climate-responsible growth.
At the heart of the project is a terminal designed to dramatically reduce energy, water and waste footprints. From architecture to operations, every layer of the airport is being engineered to limit environmental impact while supporting high-volume passenger and cargo movement.
Electric mobility will play a major role in daily operations. Around one-fifth of the parking infrastructure will be equipped with both fast and regular EV charging facilities, while all airside vehicles — from ground support equipment to service fleets — will operate entirely on electric power, supported by multiple charging hubs across the airport.
Clean energy generation is another cornerstone of the project. An 83-acre solar park within the airport ecosystem will produce close to 52,000 megawatt-hours of renewable power annually, significantly reducing dependence on conventional electricity. Water and fuel sustainability are also being addressed through rainwater harvesting ponds and a Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) plant that will supply green fuel for airport operations.
Waste and environmental management have been built into the airport’s long-term planning. A fully integrated system will handle segregation, recycling and scientific treatment of waste streams, while a dedicated monitoring framework will continuously track air quality, water resources, soil conditions, sewage and waste handling. This data-driven oversight aims to ensure that the airport’s growth does not come at the cost of ecological balance.
With its combination of renewable energy, electric mobility, water conservation and real-time environmental monitoring, Jewar Airport is positioning itself as a blueprint for how large-scale aviation infrastructure in India can align with sustainability goals while supporting rapid economic and regional development.
