PM Modi launches infra projects worth Rs 4,400-crore in Madurai

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has inaugurated and laid the foundation for infrastructure projects worth over Rs 4,400 crore in Madurai, calling it a major boost to Tamil Nadu’s growth.

The key highlights include four-laning of the Marakkanam–Puducherry (Rs 2,100 crore) and Paramakudi–Ramanathapuram (Rs 1,800 crore) highway stretches, aimed at cutting travel time by up to 50 per cent and improving connectivity to coastal regions, industrial hubs, and pilgrimage centres such as Rameswaram.

In the rail sector, eight stations were redeveloped under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, and the Chennai Beach–Egmore fourth line was inaugurated to ease suburban congestion. The Prime Minister noted significant progress in Tamil Nadu’s rail network, including near-complete electrification.

Emphasising infrastructure as a driver of economic growth and employment, Modi reiterated the Centre’s commitment to a “Developed Tamil Nadu for Developed India,” aligned with the 2047 vision.
