Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of several significant development projects in Palghar, Maharashtra. At the heart of these initiatives is the Vadhavan Port, a project estimated to cost around Rs 76,000 crore, which aims to transform India’s maritime landscape. During his address, the Prime Minister hailed the new port as a ‘future epicentre of trade and industrial development’ for both Maharashtra and the country.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized the importance of Maharashtra in the nation’s development, linking the growth of the state to the overall progress of the country. He remarked, “A Viksit Maharashtra is the most crucial element of the resolution of a Viksit Bharat.” Highlighting the state’s coastal proximity, the Prime Minister said that Maharashtra has vast potential for further development in maritime trade.
The Vadhavan Port, once completed, will be the largest container port in India and among the world’s deep-water ports. Its strategic location and 20 m depth make it an ideal candidate to handle heavy trade volumes, positioning it as a key player in global maritime infrastructure. Modi underscored that the port will provide critical connectivity to the dedicated Western Freight Corridor and the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, enabling year-round cargo movement. He described the project as having the potential to reshape the economic fabric of the region, creating new business opportunities and job growth. He also noted that an estimated 12 lakh job opportunities will be generated through this project.
