Bihar is set to witness a major infrastructure and development leap as the Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated and launched a wide array of projects exceeding Rs 5,200 crore in Siwan. With a focus on improving connectivity, public services, and industrial growth, these initiatives span transportation, sanitation, housing, and clean energy.
Among the key highlights is the commissioning of the Vaishali–Deoria railway line, an ambitious connectivity project valued at more than Rs 400 crore. A new train service on this corridor has also commenced, promising to ease travel and support regional growth.
Strengthening North Bihar’s rail network further, a Vande Bharat Express now connects Patliputra to Gorakhpur, making stops at Muzaffarpur and Bettiah. This move is expected to boost economic activity and passenger convenience across these regions.
Showcasing India’s growing manufacturing capabilities, a technologically advanced locomotive built at the Marhowra Plant has been dispatched for export to Guinea—its first such overseas delivery. This marks a milestone for the plant and reflects the country’s expanding industrial footprint under the ‘Make in India – Make for the World’ banner.
In a significant push towards sustainable urban infrastructure, six sewage treatment plants (STPs) worth over Rs 1,800 crore were inaugurated under the Namami Gange programme. Additionally, the groundwork has been laid for further investments exceeding Rs 3,000 crore in water supply and sanitation facilities, as well as more STPs across various towns in Bihar.
Energy resilience is also receiving attention, with the announcement of 500 MWh battery energy storage systems (BESS) to be installed across 15 grid substations in the state. This is expected to enhance power stability and support Bihar’s energy transition.
On the housing front, more than 53,600 urban households under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) received their first instalment for home construction, while keys were ceremonially handed over to select recipients among the 6,600 completed units.
Together, these projects reflect a multipronged approach to fast-track Bihar’s transformation through enhanced infrastructure, better civic services, and a stronger industrial base.
