PM Shri Paryatan Vayu Seva to connect 8 cities in MP

In a significant stride towards enhancing accessibility and boosting tourism, the inauguration of ‘PM Shri Paryatan Vayu Seva’ marks the launch of India’s first intra-state air service. The initiative, spearheaded by Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav, aims to connect eight key cities in Madhya Pradesh, making travel within the State more convenient for both domestic and international visitors.

Madhya Pradesh witnessed a remarkable surge in tourist arrivals in 2023, with numbers tripling to 112.1 million from 34.1 million in 2022.  The ‘PM Shri Paryatan Vayu Seva’ connects Bhopal, Indore, Jabalpur, Rewa, Ujjain, Gwalior, Singrauli, and Khajuraho, ensuring that these cities are easily accessible by air. The air service commenced operations with two 6-seat aircraft.

Dr Mohan Yadav, Chief Minister, Madhya Pradesh highlighted the strategic importance of this initiative, stating, “The intra-state ‘PM Shri Paryatan Vayu Seva’ will enhance connectivity and improve the travel experience for visitors across the state.” He also mentioned plans to connect the sacred Jyotirlingas of Omkareshwar and Mahakaleshwar by air, facilitating quicker pilgrimages from Indore or Bhopal. Other religious sites, including Orchha, Salkanpur, Katni, and Datia, are also set to benefit from improved air connectivity, enriching spiritual journeys.

Minister of State for Culture, Tourism, Religious Trusts, and Endowments, Dharmendra Singh Lodhi, lauded the launch of the country’s first intra-state air service as a milestone, declaring it an unforgettable day.

Principal Secretary of Tourism and Culture and Managing Director of the Tourism Board, Sheo Shekhar Shukla, emphasised the department’s commitment to innovating and easing connectivity between the state’s tourist destinations. He noted that the PM Shri Paryatan Vayu Seva would significantly benefit not only the tourism sector but also trade, health, education, and the promotion of culture and art. The current network of eight cities is expected to expand to additional locations in the near future.
