In a significant development, plans are underway to establish an access-controlled expressway linking Mumbai and Kolkata, potentially transforming into a reality by 2028. The envisioned project aims to interconnect the two bustling metropolises through a network of expressways, traversing various cities along the designated route.
Scheduled to facilitate this connectivity are four expressways: the Mumbai-Nagpur Samruddhi Expressway, the Nagpur-Bhandara-Gondia Expressway, the Raipur-Dhanbad Economic Corridor, and the Varanasi-Kolkata Expressway. These ambitious infrastructure initiatives promise to revolutionise travel between the two major cities, offering enhanced efficiency and convenience to commuters.
While awaiting official confirmation from the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), speculation mounts following the proposal of the Nagpur-Bhandara-Gondia Expressway, also known as the Eastern Maharashtra Expressway. Spanning an extensive 127 km, the Eastern Maharashtra Expressway will seamlessly extend the Mumbai-Nagpur Samruddhi Expressway, linking the districts of Nagpur, Bhadra, and Gondia in Maharashtra.
Anticipated to slash travel time between Nagpur and Gondia to approximately two hours, compared to the current duration of four to five hours, the proposed expressway holds immense promise for commuters. If approved, the project will significantly streamline travel between Mumbai and Kolkata, offering a faster and more efficient alternative to existing transportation options.
The proposed expressway initiatives signify a paradigm shift in India’s transportation landscape, poised to bolster economic growth and regional connectivity.
