Sam India Builtwell breaks ground on Chennai Metro Phase 2, signaling a transformative leap forward in the city's infrastructure development.

In a momentous occasion for Chennai’s infrastructure landscape, Sam India Builtwell has officially initiated groundbreaking for Package UG05-RT-01 of the Chennai Metro Phase 2 project. The ceremony, held at the Indira Nagar Station, signified the commencement of underground construction activities, setting the stage for a transformative journey in the city’s transportation network.

With dignitaries from Rail Vikas Nigam (RVNL) and Chennai Metro Rail Ltd (CMRL) gracing the event, the atmosphere was charged with anticipation and enthusiasm. Sam India’s pivotal role in executing all underground station works underscores a strategic partnership aimed at propelling the Chennai Metro Phase 2 project forward.

Embracing a blend of tradition and modernity, Sam India wasted no time in deploying cutting-edge technology, notably the Schwing-XCMG trench cutter machine, to kickstart the construction of the diaphragm wall around the Indira Nagar Station. This symbolic fusion encapsulates Chennai’s evolving landscape, where innovation meets heritage in the pursuit of progress.

The contract for Package UG05-RT01, valued at Rs 665.99 crore, underscores the magnitude of the endeavour undertaken by RVNL and CMRL. With a deadline spanning 1,725 days, the project’s timeline reflects a commitment to timely completion, bolstered by strategic collaborations with industry leaders like Sam India Builtwell.

The scope of work for Package UG05-RT01 encompasses the construction of underground stations at Adyar Depot, Indira Nagar, and Taramani Road Junction, alongside critical infrastructure development at Thiruvanmiyur Metro Station. This comprehensive approach highlights the meticulous planning and attention to detail essential for the successful execution of such a monumental project.

RVNL’s successful bid for three station packages, including a total of 16 stations between KMC and Taramani Road Junction, underscores the collective efforts towards enhancing Chennai’s transportation network. With Larsen & Toubro already undertaking tunneling work since February 2023, the momentum towards achieving seamless connectivity is palpable.
