Shyam Metalics and Energy Ltd has announced the appointment of Chandra Shekhar Verma as an Independent Director. Verma brings with him a wealth of experience and profound knowledge, having spent over four decades in the Public Sector undertakings, particularly in the steel sector.
Verma’s illustrious career showcases him as a true techno-commercial professional and a distinguished leader who has held significant roles in numerous prestigious organizations across the country. As part of Shyam Metalics, he will join the strategic advisory board and participate in all key decision-making processes related to the company’s growth and development.

Prior to joining Shyam Metalics, Verma served as the Chairman & Managing Director of Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL) from June 2010 to June 2015. Under his leadership, SAIL achieved significant milestones including substantial capacity expansion, strategic partnerships, and international recognition. He also held additional charges such as CMD of National Mineral Development Corporation (NMDC) and Chairman of International Coal Ventures Ltd (ICVL).
Throughout his career, Verma has been recognised for his exceptional contributions to the industry, receiving prestigious awards such as the ‘CEO of the Year’ at the Platts Global Metals Awards and the IIM-JRD Tata Award for Excellence in Corporate Leadership in Metallurgical Industries.
Verma was the first President of the Indian Steel Association, the apex body of the Indian Steel Industry. He was the Chairman of the ‘National Committee of Steel’ of Confederation of Indian Industries (CII). He was a member of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research Society (CSIR) headed by the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India. He was also a Board Member of the World Steel Association and a Council Member of the Indian Institute of Metals. Additionally, he was a Member of the Board of Governors and Society of the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Raipur.
Verma holds a Master of Commerce (M. Com), Master of Business Administration (MBA), is a Fellow member of the Institute of Cost Accountants of India (FICMA), a Fellow member of the Institute of Company Secretaries of India (FCS), and holds a Bachelor of Law & Legislatures (LLB).
Verma’s appointment is anticipated to bolster Shyam Metalics’ market position and propel the company’s strategic development into its next phase of growth.
