SJVN Ltd has entered into two Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with the Maharashtra Government, aiming to bolster the state’s renewable energy capacity through the development of Pumped Storage Projects (PSPs) and Floating Solar Projects (FSPs).
Under the first MoU, SJVN will collaborate with the Department of Water Resources to develop five pumped storage projects, collectively adding 8,100 MW of capacity. These projects are expected to strengthen the state’s energy storage capabilities, contributing to grid stability and meeting peak electricity demands.
The second MoU was signed with Maharashtra State Power Generation Company (MAHAGENCO) for the development of a 505 MW floating solar power project at the Lower Wardha Dam. The solar initiative will be executed in two phases, with the first phase delivering 100 MW and the second phase adding 405 MW.
The total investment in these projects is projected to be around Rs 48,000 crore, with an expected creation of approximately 8,400 direct and indirect jobs. SJVN noted that the phased approach to the floating solar project will allow for the efficient utilization of the region’s existing power infrastructure while providing a stable and sustainable energy source.
Additionally, SJVN’s pumped storage projects include Kolmondapada (800 MW), Sidgarh (1,500 MW), Chornai (2,000 MW), Baitarni (1,800 MW), and Jalvara (2,000 MW). The company will conduct surveys, investigations, and prepare detailed project reports, ensuring the timely execution of these projects in alignment with government policies. These initiatives are expected to play a key role in enhancing Maharashtra’s clean energy capacity and securing a reliable power future for the state.
