SMPK introduces new systems to boost efficiency and safety at Haldia Dock

Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port, Kolkata (SMPK) has rolled out two new initiatives at its Haldia Dock Complex aimed at enhancing operations and improving workplace safety. The projects include the Road Train System and the Safety Man Cage.

The Road Train System, a first-of-its-kind feature at the dock, enables a single truck to haul multiple trailers for moving empty containers. The system is expected to improve turnaround times, reduce fuel use, and support SMPK’s sustainability goals.

In parallel, the Safety Man Cage has been deployed to provide better protection for workers involved in lashing and maintenance activities at height. This initiative underscores the port’s focus on creating a safer work environment while modernising its handling practices.

With these advancements, SMPK continues to integrate innovative solutions to strengthen cargo movement efficiency and safeguard its workforce, reinforcing its position as a forward-looking port authority.
