Sona Comstar Acquires Escorts Kubota's Railway Equipment Division

Sona BLW Precision Forgings Ltd (Sona Comstar) has successfully concluded the acquisition of the Railway Equipment Division (RED) from Escorts Kubota Ltd. Executed as a going concern through a slump sale, the acquisition marks a significant step in Sona Comstar’s strategy to diversify its offerings beyond automotive components into the wider mobility space.

With this addition, Sona Comstar integrates a well-established railway components business known for supplying critical systems such as brakes and suspensions for various types of rolling stock. RED reported revenues of Rs 913 crore and a profit before tax of Rs 188 crore in FY25, underscoring its strong market presence and operational efficiency.

The move reflects Sona Comstar’s commitment to aligning its growth trajectory with evolving industry trends, particularly the rising demand for advanced and cleaner mobility solutions. The integration is expected to open up new avenues in the railway segment, offering long-term opportunities through the development of high-tech, engineered components that support modernisation and efficiency in rail transport.

With this strategic expansion, Sona Comstar not only reinforces its position as a mobility solutions provider but also strengthens its clean mobility product portfolio by leveraging RED’s technological capabilities and industry reach.
