The South Central Railway (SCR) is embarking on a massive development project to modernize 121 railway stations as part of the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS). With an investment of Rs 4,605 crore, the initiative is set to bring significant infrastructure upgrades to key stations across the region.
Among the stations slated for major improvements are Secunderabad, Tirupati, Nellore, and Rajahmundry. Additionally, SCR plans to develop Cherlapalli as a crucial satellite terminal. Aiming to alleviate congestion caused by the influx of pilgrims to Tirupati, the Tiruchanur railway station will be transformed into a crossing station. Proposals for further upgrades at Renigunta and Gudur stations are also in the pipeline.
In parallel, techno-economic feasibility studies for other stations, including Kacheguda, Lingampalli, and Vijayawada, are progressing, with detailed project reports (DPRs) nearing completion. The scope of work under the ABSS includes enhancing station facades, widening approach roads, landscaping, and installing LED signage. Passenger amenities will also receive attention, with improved waiting areas, user-friendly signage, and the integration of local art and culture to reflect the region’s identity. These upgrades aim to offer a seamless and comfortable experience for travelers across the network.
