Tata Elxsi and Infineon Technologies Partner to Accelerate EV Innovation for Indian Market

Tata Elxsi and Infineon Technologies have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to co-develop application-ready electric vehicle (EV) solutions tailored for India’s growing e-mobility landscape.

The collaboration comes at a pivotal moment, as India witnesses a rapid transition towards electrification, with EV sales registering an annual growth of 25–30 per cent in 2024. Electric two- and three-wheeler segments alone have reported a 28 per cent rise in sales, reflecting increasing consumer adoption and regulatory support.

Through this strategic partnership, Tata Elxsi and Infineon aim to accelerate the development and deployment of cost-optimised, automotive-grade, and safety-compliant subsystems for the Indian market. The initiative will address key safety and performance benchmarks, including ASIL-D compliance under ISO 26262 standards for functional safety of road vehicles.

Tata Elxsi will contribute its strengths in design, system integration, and validation, while Infineon will provide early access to its advanced semiconductor technologies, including silicon carbide (SiC)-based components, microcontrollers, and integrated circuits (ICs). The joint development roadmap includes high-voltage inverters for traction and auxiliary systems, scalable battery management systems (BMS), bi-directional onboard chargers, and high-voltage thermal management solutions.

These solutions will cater to India’s evolving mobility ecosystem encompassing two-wheelers (2W), three-wheelers (3W), passenger vehicles (PV), and commercial vehicles (CV), with future scalability into emerging areas such as electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft, energy systems, and off-highway vehicles.

“Currently, several of our EV solutions are already built on Infineon SoCs and components. This MoU further strengthens our partnership by giving us a clearer scope and tighter system-level alignment, enabling shorter turnaround times to address Indian market requirements. As EV adoption scales, our focus remains on delivering production-ready, automotive standards-compliant platforms and solutions,” said Nambi Ganesh, Head of Automotive, Tata Elxsi.

“At Infineon, we are committed to driving innovation in the electric vehicle sector and empowering our partners to bring cutting-edge technologies to market. This partnership with Tata Elxsi is a significant step in our journey to support India’s ambitious electrification goals. By combining Tata Elxsi’s design and integration expertise with our advanced semiconductor solutions, we are not only enhancing the development of ready-to-deploy EV systems but also ensuring that they meet the highest safety and performance standards. Together, we aim to accelerate the adoption of electric mobility across various segments, from two-wheelers to commercial vehicles, and contribute to a more sustainable future for India,” said Kenneth Lim, Senior Vice President, Automotive, Infineon Technologies Asia Pacific.

This joint initiative aligns with the national targets outlined by NITI Aayog, which aim for 80 per cent electrification of two- and three-wheelers and 70 per cent electrification of commercial vehicles by 2030.
