Tata Motors has announced the appointment of Shailesh Chandra as its Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer. He will formally take charge from October, with his term extending until 2028.
Chandra, a long-serving insider at the company, is currently the Joint Managing Director of Tata Motors’ passenger vehicles and passenger electric mobility businesses. Alongside his new role, he will continue to lead the electric mobility division, a segment that has been central to the company’s growth strategy in recent years.
Having joined Tata Motors in 1995, Chandra has built a career spanning nearly three decades across multiple functions including production, vendor development, corporate strategy, and business administration. He briefly worked with Tata Sons at the Group Chairman’s Office before returning to Tata Motors in 2016. Since then, he has steered key transformations in the passenger vehicles unit and played a pivotal role in positioning the company as a frontrunner in India’s electric mobility space.
His elevation comes at a significant juncture for Tata Motors as it strengthens its leadership team to navigate challenges and build on growth momentum across core and emerging business areas.
