Tata Motors has entered into a landmark agreement with Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd (TPREL), a subsidiary of Tata Power. The agreement entails the co-development of a 131 MW wind-solar hybrid renewable energy project aimed at powering Tata Motors’ manufacturing operations across Maharashtra and Gujarat.
This integrated renewable energy solution is projected to generate nearly 300 million units of clean electricity annually, resulting in an estimated reduction of over 2 lakh ton of CO₂ emissions each year. Enabled through co-investment and a long-term Power Purchase Agreement (PPA), the project will supply green and cost-effective energy exclusively to Tata Motors’ six manufacturing facilities, contributing to both commercial and passenger vehicle production.
The initiative marks a significant advancement in Tata Motors’ clean energy journey and supports its commitment to the RE-100 initiative, aiming to achieve 100 per cent renewable energy usage well ahead of the 2030 target. The wind-solar hybrid project also plays a vital role in progressing toward net-zero emissions, reinforcing the company’s vision of building climate-resilient and environmentally responsible manufacturing operations.
Commenting on the development, Vishal Badshah, Vice President – Operations, Commercial Vehicles, Tata Motors, stated,
“As a key driver of India’s mobility and logistics ecosystem, Tata Motors Commercial Vehicles is proud to lead by example in sustainable manufacturing. This project reinforces our commitment to integrate renewable energy into our operations and reducing our carbon footprint while meeting our RE-100 goals. It also reflects our broader purpose of delivering mobility solutions that are sustainable at every stage—from production to performance.”
Echoing this sentiment, Pramod Choudhary, Vice President – Operations, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles, added,
“We are committed to transition to clean energy for building a future ready automotive business. With this PPA our plants in Maharashtra and Gujarat will take a significant leap in our journey towards Green Manufacturing, complementing India’s green transition. It’s a defining step towards making our Passenger Vehicle Operations greener, smarter, and more resilient on sustainable basis.”
The collaboration between Tata Motors and TPREL underscores a shared commitment to driving the country’s clean energy agenda and serves as a benchmark for sustainable practices within India’s automotive sector.
