Tata Power has entered into a strategic partnership with Noida International Airport (NIA) for renewable energy integration. The collaboration was formalized through the signing of two Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) in New Delhi.
As part of this partnership, Tata Power Trading Company Ltd (TPTCL) will oversee the complete renewable energy portfolio for NIA, ensuring a seamless power supply through a comprehensive PPA. Specifically, TPTCL will deliver 10.8 MW of wind power, sourced from TPREL’s assets, to meet a significant portion of NIA’s energy requirements.
In addition, TPREL will develop, operate, and maintain a 13 MW onsite solar power facility to further supplement the airport’s energy needs. This combined wind and solar energy supply underscores Tata Power’s commitment to supporting sustainable airport operations.
Beyond renewable energy provision, Tata Power has committed to the development and maintenance of critical dry utilities, including essential electrical infrastructure. This comprehensive O&M service agreement, spanning 25 years, will support NIA’s smart energy infrastructure and operational efficiency. The investment for these initiatives totals approximately Rs 550 crore (~$66 million).
Dr Praveer Sinha, CEO & MD, Tata Power, remarked, “Tata Power is proud to partner with Noida International Airport to pioneer renewable energy integration. As the nation advances its aviation infrastructure, we lead the charge by providing innovative clean energy solutions. This collaboration supports the development of Net Zero Airports, accelerating the country’s transition to a greener future.”
The Noida International Airport, set to open its first phase with one runway and a terminal designed to handle 12 million passengers annually, aims to become a model for sustainable airport development. Upon full completion of its four-phase plan, the airport will have the capacity to serve 70 million passengers per year.
Christoph Schnellmann, CEO, Noida International Airport, highlighted, “Partnering with Tata Power represents a significant step in our sustainability mission. Sourcing more than half of our energy from renewable sources demonstrates our commitment to environmental stewardship and positions NIA as a leader in eco-conscious airport operations.”
This strategic alliance reflects a forward-looking approach to integrating renewable energy within India’s growing airport infrastructure, setting a precedent as the country plans the construction of over 200 new airports over the next two decades. The collaboration marks a significant milestone in India’s journey toward a sustainable future and reinforces the role of strategic partnerships in fostering environmental responsibility.
