Tata Power, a prominent player in the energy sector, has successfully secured the Bikaner-Neemrana Transmission Project through a competitive bidding process. The acquisition, carried out via the special purpose vehicle (SPV) named Bikaner-III Neemrana-II Transmission Ltd, has been confirmed by a recent company statement.
In adherence to the Ministry of Power’s guidelines, Tata Power emerged victorious in the Tariff-Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) process, obtaining the coveted letter of intent (LOI). This strategic move aims to bolster the infrastructure for the evacuation of renewable energy in India, aligning with the country’s sustainable energy goals.
The Bikaner-Neemrana Transmission Project, to be executed on a Build-Own-Operate-Transfer (BOT) basis, will play a pivotal role in facilitating the efficient evacuation of 7.7 gigawatts (GW) of renewable energy from the Bikaner Complex situated in Rajasthan. The project’s scope involves the establishment of a robust 340 km transmission corridor, connecting the Bikaner-III pooling station to the Neemrana II substation.
Tata Power, entrusted with the maintenance of the transmission project for an extensive period of 35 year, anticipates an estimated project cost of Rs 1,544 crore. The timeline for commissioning is projected to span 24 months from the transfer of the project SPV. This strategic acquisition underscores Tata Power’s commitment to advancing renewable energy infrastructure and contributing significantly to India’s sustainable energy landscape.
