Union Minister Gadkari launches Rs 6,350 crore highway projects to transform Jharkhand’s road network

Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, has kickstarted a significant infrastructure push in Jharkhand with the inauguration and foundation laying of 11 National Highway (NH) projects valued at Rs 6,350 crore. Spread across Ranchi and Garhwa districts, the initiatives are poised to enhance regional connectivity, ease urban traffic, and drive economic momentum in the state.

Ranchi emerged as a key beneficiary with nine projects rolled out in the capital region. Among them is the newly inaugurated 4.18 km Ratu Road flyover connecting Raj Bhavan to OTC Ground, set to streamline traffic in the city. Another major highlight is the Palma-Gumla four-lane highway project, pegged at Rs 1,900 crore, which promises smoother intra-district travel. The Rs 825 crore Barhi-Koderma four-lane road was also unveiled, along with smaller but impactful road development works in Godda (Rs 100 crore), Giridih (Rs 20 crore), and Barahat-Tulsipur (Rs 70 crore).

Urban mobility in Ranchi received a further boost with the opening of an elevated corridor, constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 560 crore. This corridor is expected to ease congestion and support faster movement within the city.

Meanwhile, Garhwa witnessed the opening of a 23 km four-lane stretch from Shankha to Khajoori, built with an investment of Rs 1,130 crore. Additionally, groundwork began on a Rs 1,330 crore project aimed at expanding a 32 km portion of NH 39 from the Chhattisgarh-Jharkhand border to Gumla into a four-lane highway.

Together, these projects are designed to improve connectivity across regions, trim travel time, and support logistical efficiency — setting the stage for accelerated development and increased economic activity throughout Jharkhand.
