VOC Port receives first clinker shipment under MoU With Ambuja Cement

VOC Port has recorded a key milestone with the arrival of its first clinker consignment under the Minimum Guaranteed Tonnage-based Incentive Scheme, following the Memorandum of Understanding signed with Ambuja Cement Ltd, Gujarat. The agreement facilitates the coastal movement of 2.5 lakh mt of clinker annually, strengthening the port’s role in supporting industry-linked coastal logistics.

The vessel MV Lima Trader berthed at NCB-II carrying 56,440 mt of clinker from Sanghi Port, Gujarat. The vessel operations are being managed by Seaport Shipping as the ship agent, while Seaport Logistics is overseeing stevedoring activities. After discharge, the cargo will be transported by road to Ambuja’s grinding unit at Mela Arasadi, Tuticorin, situated about 24 km from the port, where it will undergo further processing into cement.

This inaugural shipment marks significant progress in advancing sustainable and cost-effective coastal cargo movement. Additional clinker vessels committed under the MoU are expected to call at VOC Port in the coming months, supporting higher cargo throughput and reinforcing long-term collaboration between the port and the cement industry.
